Taking an interest in vampires at a young age, Katie Salidas devoured every book she could find on the blood sucking creatures. Since she has always had a desire to entertain, it was only natural that she should love to write about them. Writing books is her passion and she hopes that her passion will bring you hours of entertainment.

Katie Salidas resides in Las Vegas; she is a mother, a wife, and an author. She has several successful self-published titles; she even has a DIY book on publishing called Go Publish Yourself. To learn more you can visit her website or her blog.

Description:

“Good girls don’t wear fur, or fight over men, and they certainly don’t run around naked, howling at the moon. But then, no-one ever called Fallon a good girl.”

Aiden is the interim leader for the Olde Town Pack who has lost their Alpha wolf. To be sworn in as the new Alpha leader he needs a wolf mate. The problem is he has fallen in love with a human who doesn’t like to be told what to do. Fallon loves Aiden but her chances for surviving the transition into a werewolf are 50/50, which is rather intimidating, and the deadline for making a choice is approaching faster than she or Aiden would like. There are others willing to kill them both to take their places; a war is brewing within the Olde Town Pack. Decisions have to be made now.

Appraisal:

This book is a companion novella to Salidas’ Immortalis series that I have not read yet, but I feel this could stand on it own. The author did a good job developing the characters early on; I understood the importance of the choices that had to be made. Fallon is a strong likeable human who doesn’t like to be told what to do, this is a quality she has working for her. Aiden was born a wolf and is the son of the fallen Alpha. The weight on his shoulders is great but he refuses to pressure Fallon into making a decision. I think this speaks a lot to his character. The author doesn’t waste any time setting the scene and developing the tension that the whole wolf pack is feeling, that there is a potential war brewing. Everyone’s nerves are on edge and alliances are forming behind closed doors.

The story is told through Fallon’s eyes, so we get to intimately know what she is thinking. When the pressure gets to be too much she thinks it might just be better for her to leave Aiden behind. She runs to her vampire friend Alyssa and her maker Lysander. This is where reading the Immortalis books first would have given more insight, but we are given enough to understand they are allies with the wolf pack, there was a common enemy they joined together to overcome. The plot moves fast and Fallon’s actions are understandable. There are politics, bigotry, bloody battles, steamy sex scenes, and humor all rolled into this novella. The only thing I felt was missing in this story was a little foreplay; I know they are werewolves with animal instincts and all that, but I missed the foreplay. *blush* I think if you enjoy Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series or Ilona Andrew’s Kate Daniels series you will enjoy this story. Now, I need to go catch up on the Immortalis books. And I am hoping that there is more foreplay with her vampires. Geez, I’ve said too much, haven’t I?
